UV Glass Lamination: The Basics

UVEKOL® glass lamination is safe, fast and consistent, and reduces the costs, waste and risks associated with traditional PVB glass lamination.

With the UVEKOL glass laminating process, a pre-formulated, plastic polymer is pumped in liquid form between two lites of glass, then cured with low energy UV lamps, forming a strong, transparent interlayer which bonds glass-to-glass. The curing typically takes 20-30 minutes, with no solvents or additional processing required. The laminated glass can then be made-to-size for customized applications, quickly and easily.

Since UVEKOL will only solidify when exposed to ultraviolet light, it can be supplied as a ready-to-use, one-component system. This ensures more control and consistent results because UVEKOL is not affected by mixing parameters or ambient temperature during the curing process.

UVEKOL is:

Ready-to-use
There is no mixing involved. Dosing quantities and curing times are well defined, and are not influenced by changing temperatures.

Solvent-free
UVEKOL contains no harmful solvents, so production, clean-up and disposal are safe, fast and efficient.

Consistent
There is no variation in quality from batch to batch, and since curing happens only under UV light, customers gain complete control of the curing process.

The Advantages of UVEKOL

UVEKOL enables customers to better control the supply, quality, delivery and costs of their laminated glass. Its key advantages include:

  • Reduce laminated glass costs up to 40%
    • Less energy costs
    • Eliminate harmful solvent disposal
    • Eliminate cutting waste and time associated with buying laminated glass from the market
  • Low capital investment
    • For less than $100,000 and under 1,500 square feet of floor space, produce 2,000 square feet of glass per shift with four people
  • Fast process
    • Just-in-time manufacturing and order shipping
    • Only four steps involved
    • Laminate glass in 20-30 minutes
  • High quality and flexibility
    • Excellent quality
    • Laminate custom shapes and sizes
    • Laminate a variety of glass types and textures
  • Consistent results
    • One component system
    • No mixing
    • Curing happens only under UV light

Laminate Your Own Glass in Four Efficient Steps

Any glass worker can quickly learn UVEKOL's simple four-step process:

Step 1: Cleaning Wash and dry the lites of glass.
Step 2: Taping Apply double-sided adhesive tape to the perimeter of one glass lite and assemble the two lites. The tape acts as a dam and provides the required thickness for the UVEKOL interlayer.
Step 3: Filling Fill the space between the two panes of glass with UVEKOL. Since it is pumped in liquid form, UVEKOL spreads evenly—even between irregular surfaces.
Step 4: Curing Curing begins only when you place the panes of glass under UV lamps, giving you greater control over the process. Cure time is typically 20-30 minutes.
