Phosphonium Salts

Cytec has the ability to manufacture a variety of tertiary alkylphosphines having the generic formula R3P. These are readily quarternized with alkylhalides to yield phosphonium salts - [R3R'P]+ X-. Consequently, Cytec is the leading supplier of tetra alkylphosphonium salts which serve a variety of applications such as phase transfer catalysis and resin curing. Additionally, phosphonium salts find utility as biocides, anti-stats and ionic liquids. In applications requiring temperatures in excess of 100ºC, phosphonium salts provide superior thermal stability over analogous ammonium salts.

Cytec currently markets several phosphonium salts under the CYPHOS® phosphonium salt trade name. Representative products include CYPHOS 442W - 75% tetrabutylphosphonium bromide in water, CYPHOS 3453 - tributyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium chloride and CYPHOS 3472P tributyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium bromide in isopropanol.
