Phosphine Gas

Cytec has been producing phosphine on an industrial scale for over 35 years. A great deal of this phosphine is reacted with a variety of olefins or aldehydes to produce a wide range of products. Phosphine is both pyrophoric and toxic. Its properties makes phosphine very useful in Cytec's range of agricultural fumigant products. This simple starting material is also purified and used as a dopant in the manufacture of semiconductors and compound semiconductors. ECO₂FUME^® Fumigant Gas

ECO₂FUME fumigant gas is a ready-to-use, non-flammable mixture of phosphine and carbon dioxide that enables highly effective fumigation in a wide variety of sealed-storage applications. It is dispensed external to storage or structures using simple techniques which avoids applicator exposure and enhances worker safety. ECO₂FUME can be transported easily, disperses and penetrates foods and non-foods quickly. Internal concentration levels of phosphine can be managed by adjusting the amount of fumigant released from the cylinder at any stage of the fumigation. ECO₂FUME is quickly and easily aerated. It produces no waste by-products or dust residues, thus eliminating the hazardous deactivation and disposal issues typically associated with traditional fumigants.

VAPORPH₃OS Phosphine Fumigant

VAPORPH₃OS phosphine fumigant is a cylinderized source of 100% phosphine for use in the fumigation of post-harvest products or storage structures. VAPORPH₃OS phosphine fumigant is designed for use in conjunction with Cytec-approved blending equipment capable of diluting the phosphine concentration to below its lower flammability limit of 3% (vol.) On-site blending with carbon dioxide (CO₂) as a dilution gas can achieve this result. This option is well suited for locations that already have on-site storage of liquid CO₂ or sites where CO₂ can be transported easily. The on-site blending of VAPORPH₃OS is also an attractive option when frequent fumigation is required. It is also well suited in locations where centralized dispensing stations are feasible.

VAPORPH₃OS phosphine fumigant can also be used with Cytec-approved blending equipment capable of diluting the phosphine concentration to below its lower flammability limit of 1.8% (vol.) in air. On-site blending with the surrounding air as a dilution gas can achieve this result and eliminates the need for a bulk source of CO₂ for on-site blending. The resulting mixture of phosphine and air that is dispensed from the blending equipment can be added directly to the fumigation space or existing recirculation systems. The on-site blending of VAPORPH₃OS phosphine fumigant with air is an attractive option when frequent fumigation is required. The portability of the blending equipment gives the fumigator flexibility in usage at multiple sites. It can also be installed at locations where centralized dispensing stations are beneficial.
