| AVIMID® High-Temperature
Materials
Since their discovery in the
late 1950's, polyimides have been the preferred resin
for high temperature applications requiring durability,
lightweight and/or insulation (thermal, electrical)
qualities. Cytec Engineered Materials has developed
a broad range of these materials, including AVIMID N,
the industry's most thermally oxidative stable organic
composite. AVIMID polyimide composties offer a wide
variety of price and processing options. With typical
use temperatures ranging from -54 to 370C, AVIMID polyimide
composites provide a higher level of performance versus
metal alternatives (aluminum, titanium) and reinforced
polyimide resins. Advantages of AVIMID include:
- Weight savings
of 20-50% compared to aluminum and titanium
- High impact toughness
and damage tolerance
- High specific
stiffness and strength
- Excellent solvent
resistance
- Good creep and
fatigue resistance
- Outstanding fire
resistance and negligible smoke generation
- Low coefficient
of expansion Improved wear
properties
- Outstanding durability
leading to less equipment downtime
