Overview Fiber metal laminates (FMLs) are a class of engineered material consisting of interleaved layers of metal and prepreg. Cytec Engineered Materials supplies the FM94/S-2 Glass prepreg and primers for licensed FML applications.
Applications and Performance FMLs have been accepted on new generation aircraft such as the Airbus A380 for fuselage and leading edge applications. FMLs provide dramatic improvements in fuselage fatigue life and weight reductions. They also are a light weight alternative to aluminum for impact sensitive components such as leading edges, also providing lighting strike protection.
