Thornel® Continuous Carbon Fibers are continuous strand fibers designed for typical thermal management applications. These materials are used in applications where high performance and maximum weight reduction must be combined. Thanks to ultra-high longitudinal thermal conductivity, Thornel fibers demonstrate 2 to 3 times the performance of copper, and 4 to 5 times the performance of aluminum.
ThermalGraph® Solid Panels are made of oriented graphite fibers, which give them extremely high unidirectional thermal conductivity. These solid panels are composed entirely of fibers and contain no binders. They offer unique directional thermal conductivity. Panels can be infiltrated with metals or polymers for optimized thermal and mechanical properties.
ThermalGraph® panels are available with thermal conductivity ranging from 390 W/mK to 750 W/mK. Standard panels are surfaced on two sides and trimmed square. Panel thicknesses of up to 1/2-inch are available, as are custom sizes. Learn more about ThemalGraph®
ThermalGraph® Fabrics discontinuous fibers are available in a free-flowing form that can be easily blended and compounded with most other materials. ThermalGraph® DKA X has a longitudinal thermal conductivity two times higher than copper, and a tensile modulus greater than 120 Msi. ThermalGraph DKD X has a thermal conductivity 50 percent higher than copper, and a tensile modulus over 100 Msi. Chopped fibers are also available in 1/2, 1 and 2-inch lengths. Composites made from ThermalGraph® discontinuous fibers offer several advantages over most other materials including thermoplastic and thermoset resins.
Higher thermal conductivity than possible with other particulate fillers such as metals or ceramics
Better vibrational response due to the low density and high stiffness of the fiber
Ability to tailor material properties by combining fibers with matrices such as copper, thermoplastics and carbon
Opportunity to use low-cost injection molding, compression molding and resin transfer molding processes
