raw materials that support Cytec’s products. It also helps ensure dependable
supply and cost-efficiency for our customers. At the Fortier Manufacturing
Complex located outside of New Orleans, Louisiana, we have leveraged synergies
between the product portfolio and process energy requirements to create a
globally competitive business model to benefit Cytec and our partners located at
the site.
For example, our melamine is fundamental to Cytec’s melamine-based resins
used in high-technology coatings and binders for automotive and industrial
products. While acrylonitrile produced at Fortier meets our internal demand for
acrylic fiber and engineered plastics customers.
In addition to manufacturing sulfuric acid from burning sulfur, we also
regenerate spent sulfuric acid for one of our partners at the Fortier site. This
regeneration service is an important aspect of Cytec’s company-wide commitment
to environmental responsibility. Cytec’s sulfuric acid regeneration facility at
Fortier significantly reduces our waste disposal requirements. The majority of
sulfuric acid production is sold to pulp and paper, catalyst manufacturers and
other consumers.
