Responsible Care®
Since 1988, the U.S. chemical industry, through the American Chemistry Council (ACC), has significantly improved its environmental, health, safety and security performance by participating in the Responsible Care® initiative. Participation in Responsible Care is mandatory for ACC member companies, all of which have made CEO-level commitments to uphold these program elements:
- Measuring and publicly reporting performance;
- Implementing the Responsible Care codes, including the security code;
- Applying the Responsible Care management system to achieve and verify results; and
- Obtaining independent certification that a management system is in place and functions according to professional standards.
In the U.S., Responsible Care companies have reduced environmental releases by 78% and achieved an employee safety record that is four and a half times better than the average of the U.S. manufacturing sector.
Cytec and Responsible Care® 14001
Cytec is in the process of certifying sites in the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® 14001 program, a combination of Responsible Care codes and ISO 14001 management systems. This program requires that we identify and act in areas where we can improve safety, health, environmental and security performance. More than 25% of our manufacturing sites and our Headquarters have already implemented the program. All North American and eight additional manufacturing sites will be completed by the end of 2007, and all manufacturing sites worldwide will be completed by 2008.
