Cytec to Stop Production of Dry Xanthate by Year End 2005
Replace Dry Xanthate with High-Performance, Selective Reagents

West Paterson, NJ, October 11, 2005 - Cytec Industries Inc. (NYSE: CYT) announced today that it will cease development, production and supply of dry xanthates, worldwide, effective December 31, 2005. Cytec will, however, honor all existing contracts for the supply of such materials.

"As our acquisitions over the last few years demonstrate, mining chemicals is and will continue to be a core area of focus for Cytec's long-term growth," said President of Cytec Performance Specialties Shane Fleming. "Cytec is committed to offering new and improved products that outperform existing offerings and help our customers to maximize the return on their investment with us. Our strategic decision to end production of dry xanthate in favor of high-performance chemical specialties underscores our long-term commitment to the mining industry."

Cytec has been employing its new proprietary FLOTATION MATRIX 100T process to analyze the operating parameters and mineral recovery needs of customers, and to help develop customized technologies that meet or exceed their requirements.

With more than 15 successful customer implementations, FLOTATION MATRIX 100 has proven to be an effective tool for developing and validating custom reagent products that generate bottom-line operational improvements.

On the strength of this benchmark success, Cytec has decided to discontinue its dry xanthate line as part of a strategy to produce custom-blended reagents that offer higher selectivity and are more cost-effective for customers. As such, Cytec will no longer supply the following dry xanthate products: potassium amyl, isopropyl and isobutyl xanthates (Cytec's AEROŽ 317, 343 and 350 promoters).

Cytec's manufacturing facility in Antofagasta, Chile, which had been the primary location for production of dry xanthates, will remain in operation. This facility - a key strategic asset for Cytec - will be heavily involved in the production of custom reagents as part of the FLOTATION MATRIX 100 initiative.
